Students in the 500-hour program have been learning the relationship between advanced postures and arm balances. We took an in-depth look at how standing side split prepares the practitioner for vishvamitrasana. In addition, students have been practicing their ability to articulate the technique of a posture in a unique and dynamic game called "Call-O-Rama"!
We continued Gita studies in February as well as some of the more esoteric Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. These texts support our understanding of pranayama by discussing the subtle currents of prana and apana within the body. By reading the source texts and applying this knowledge in our practice, we move deeper within while discovering fresh territory for exploration.
Guest instructor Denise Carrico demonstrated her art of teaching yoga to people with cancer. She has been working with this special population for over 10 years throughout the Seattle region and for Cancer Lifeline. We learned that it takes a special talent and sensitivity to teach these classes - and there is a need for this kind of teaching.
The current 500-hour class will graduate in May. Kathryn is busy finalizing the schedule for our next 500-hour program slated for early 2011. Stay tuned for complete details in next month's newsletter. The 500-hour program is appropriate for yoga teachers or practitioners who already have a 200-hour certificate from any yoga school and wish to expand their knowledge.
Our next 500-hour training begins January 28, 2011. We require a 200-hour certificate from our school or any other Yoga Alliance registered school. Stay tuned for details!
