Andra DeVoght, PT, MPH, Andra's approach to yoga is influenced by her training as a physical therapist, her studies in public health, Vipassana meditation, and the teachings of Iyengar and Anusara yoga traditions. She completed a degree in physical therapy in 1995 after which she worked for several years at Harborview Medical Center helping people with chronic pain, illness and traumatic injuries. A desire to understand and alleviate suffering compelled her to pursue a master's degree in public health and deepen her commitment to the study of yoga. She draws on the eight limbs of yoga to teach classes that address the physical, emotional, and social aspects of health and well-being, specializing in therapeutic yoga classes for chronic pain and injury as well as prenatal and postpartum yoga. Her classes devote particular attention to alignment, attitude and safety. "Helping people take the teachings of yoga off the mat however is my ultimate goal. The yoga mat is a wonderful place to learn and to practice, but if we take our yoga into our daily lives the world around us can also benefit from what we practice on the mat." Andra teaches on Vashon Island where she lives and runs her own physical therapy practice.
